Job Providers, Property Owners, and Working Families Put $1.4 Million into Chief Justice's Re-election Bid
Showing enthusiastic, broad-based support for the chief justice of
Michigan's highest court, the Campaign to Re-elect Chief Justice Cliff
Taylor reported raising more than $1.4 million since February. The
campaign also showed $1.1 million on hand with no debt. Of the 1,993
contributions made through August 7th, a total of 1,906 contributions
(or 96%) came from individuals.
"I am tremendously
humbled by the support of the men and women of our great state who
believe judges should not have personal agendas and who take pride in a
Court that upholds the law," Taylor said today after the Secretary of
State's campaign finance statement was filed. "Our decisions have
affirmed laws that protect families and property and create a
predictable climate for job providers."
Taylor, a
Navy veteran, former assistant prosecutor, and University of Michigan
graduate, is in his second term as chief justice of the Michigan
Supreme Court after first being elected to the position by his fellow
justices in 2005. Taylor has been a member of the Court since 1997.
In these tough times
for Michigan families, Chief Justice Taylor has been a strong guardian
of their tax dollars. He led the fight to end taxpayer-funded cars for
judges, and has advocated the elimination of unneeded judges which
would have saved the state millions more.
During his tenure,
Chief Justice Taylor has been recognized by both Mothers Against Drunk
Driving (MADD) and the Police Officers Association of Michigan (POAM).
This year, he has already received wide support from organizations such
as: the Detroit Police Officers Association, the Michigan Chamber of
Commerce, POAM, Citizens for Traditional Values, the Michigan State
Medical Society/Doctor PAC, the Michigan Realtors Association, the
Brotherhood of Carpenters, the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce,
Operating Engineers of 324, the Michigan Restaurant Association, the
Michigan Health & Hospital Association, the Michigan Retailers, and
the Michigan Grocers Association.
