Michigan Representative Tom Casperson wants
to become U.S. Representative Tom Casperson
and Gun Owners of America Political Victory
Fund (GOA-PVF) agrees with him. We are pleased
to endorse Tom Casperson for Congress.
Larry Pratt, GOA's executive director, will be in
the Upper Peninsula on Monday evening, November 3,
for a campaign rally. Rally sponsors are also
encouraging gun owners in Michigan's first
congressional district to become GOA members on
Monday evening as a way of thanking GOA-PVF for
being the only national pro-Second Amendment
organization to endorse Casperson. See below
for details.
Casperson has an A record from his service in the
Michigan House of Representatives where he has been
the chairman of the Conservation, Forestry and
Outdoor Recreation Committee. In addition,
GOA-PVF has given him an A based on his response
to our candidate questionnaire.
We are glad that Casperson has chosen to run against
the incumbent, Bart Stupak. Stupak, it can be said,
has always voted for the Second Amendment --
when his vote was not needed.
When House Speaker Nancy Pelosi does not need his
vote, she lets him vote pro-gun. He did this for
example when Pelosi let even GOA-PVF F-rated
members of the House vote to overturn many of the
provisions of the District of Columbia gun law.
This way anti-gun members of Congress could tell
the folks back home that they voted against
gun control.
Why would Pelosi allow a vote against the anti-gun
bastion of the nation's capital? Because the fix
was in over in the Senate where Pelosi had already
been assured that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid
would guarantee (successfully) that there would not
be a vote there. So, Congress left town with the
measure dead on arrival in the Senate.
But, when gun owners really needed Stupak's vote on
a measure to tell the feds to allow firearms to be
carried in national parks, he voted with Pelosi to
kill the measure which failed by nine votes.
That's what we mean when we say that Stupak always
votes with us -- when we don't need his vote. But
when we do need him, he lines up with San Francisco's
gun banner queen, Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Another example of Stupak voting with Pelosi when
his vote was needed by the gun banners was against
an amendment that would have: exempted groups such
as Gun Owners of America from the anti-speech rules
of federal campaign laws; put Congress on record as
to approving of guns for self defense; and, declared
the Second Amendment to protect an individual right.
The Supreme Court recently told people like Stupak
that they are wrong -- the Second Amendment does
protect an individual right to keep and bear arms.
The measure only lost by ten votes, so once again,
Stupak marched in lock step with Pelosi when she
told him that she needed his vote for gun control.
Stupak can be counted on for one thing -- betrayal
of gun owners whenever Speaker Pelosi tells him to.
He more closely represents Pelosi's San Francisco
district rather than voters of the Upper Peninsula
and northern Michigan.
You have a real choice in Michigan's first
congressional district. Tom Casperson has earned
your vote, your help and your financial support.

to send this e-mail to as many voters as you can.
Sincerely,
Tim Macy
Vice-Chairman
P.S. On Monday evening, November 3, Pratt will be at
The Danforth Place (one mile north of Escanaba on the
Danforth Road). Doors will open at 6:30 and dinner
will be at 7:00. Dinner is free. Talk show host
Bill Moore (of WCHT) has arranged for dinner as a
thank you to his listeners. Bring your friends,
especially those who are not GOA members -- yet.
