Freedom of speech? We don’t need no steenking freedom of speech:
PARIS (Reuters) - French former film star Brigitte Bardot went on trial on Tuesday for insulting Muslims, the fifth time she has faced the charge of “inciting racial hatred” over her controversial remarks about Islam and its followers.
Prosecutors asked that the Paris court hand the 73-year-old former sex symbol a two-month suspended prison sentence and fine her 15,000 euros ($23,760) for saying the Muslim community was “destroying our country and imposing its acts”.
Since retiring from the film industry in the 1970s, Bardot has become a prominent animal rights activist but she has also courted controversy by denouncing Muslim traditions and immigration from predominantly Muslim countries.
She has been fined four times for inciting racial hatred since 1997, at first 1,500 euros and most recently 5,000.
Here’s what she said:
“I am fed up with being under the thumb of this population which is destroying us, destroying our country and imposing its acts,” the star of ‘And God created woman’ and ‘Contempt’ said.
No truth to any of that, is there? And of course that whole “that’s just my opinion” thing doesn’t count, either. Say it and be prosecuted for it.
She’s such a hater.
UPDATE: AND HERE’S ANOTHER ONE........
The British have now arrested conservative blogger Lionheart for, guess what? Why, “stirring up racial haterd”, of course. And he insulted, guess who? Muslims, of course:
A blogger from Dunstable has been arrested and released on bail for allegedly stirring up racial hatred.
Paul RayPaul Ray, who uses the pseudonym Lionheart on his provocative online diary, was arrested two weeks ago after returning from South Carolina, America where he was seeking political asylum.
He had already been warned via email on January 3 by Bedfordshire Police that he would be arrested if he returned.
His take on it?
“I’m a Christian - that’s my defence.
“My belief it that it’s my rights and responsibility to say what some people may not like, which may hurt feelings.
“My blog is a response to what is happening. I have not called for violence.
“You have got some Muslims calling for followers to overpower the state, opening recruiting for a global jihad and raising funds for this.
He hit it squarely on the head. It seems you can be a Muslim and openly call for the Islamization of Europe and the world by any means necessary and nobody in the government raises an eyebrow. Or if they do we don’t notice because they’re hiding under their beds when they do it.
But if you are a Christian the mere expression of opinion is enough to get you jailed.
